There are two ways to get to Nevis. Fly into St. Kitts (SKB) and take the local ferry approx. 45 mins or water taxi approx. 7 mins. Or, take a regional flight to Nevis (NEV).
How to get around Nevis?
A rental car is recommended, and a permit is required. Taxis are available for short journeys.
What currency does St. Kitts and Nevis use?
St. Kitts and Nevis uses the Eastern Caribbean Dollar (XCD), but USD is widely accepted.

Getting to Nevis
Via St. Kitts: The easiest way to reach Nevis is by flying into Robert L. Bradshaw International Airport (SKB) in St. Kitts and hopping on a ferry or water taxi over to Nevis. The ferry takes about 45 minutes, while a water taxi is a quicker (but pricier) 10-minute ride. There is also a convenient taxi stand right outside the airport, making onward connections simple.
Direct to Nevis: Nevis' own Vance W. Amory International Airport (NEV) has limited regional flights from nearby Caribbean islands, mainly via Winair, TransAnguilla, Cape Air or private charters.
Entry Requirements: St. Kitts and Nevis require visitors to fill out their ETA before arrival. This makes the immigration process seamless. Most travellers from North America and Europe can visit visa-free for short stays. However, always check updated visa requirements before your trip.
Getting Around
Rent a Car: The best way to explore Nevis at your own pace! Cars drive on the left side of the road, and you’ll need to obtain a temporary driver’s permit (available for a fee at rental agencies, such as Thrifty Car Rental).
Taxis: Taxis are available, but they do not run on meters, so be sure to negotiate and confirm the fare before your ride.
Walking & Biking: Charlestown and some coastal areas are walkable, and biking is an option for the more adventurous, though the hilly terrain can be challenging.
Public Transport: There is no formal public bus system on Nevis; however, if you want a truly authentic Nevisian experience, you can hop on the privately owned minibuses that the locals use to get around. They’re affordable and give you a real taste of island life.
Best Time to Visit Nevis
Nevis enjoys warm, tropical weather year-round, with average temperatures hovering around 27°C (80°F). However, the best time to visit depends on what you’re looking for:
December to April- This is the driest, sunniest period, making it ideal for beach days and outdoor adventures. It’s also the most popular and priciest time to visit, as travellers escape the northern winter.
May to June- A quieter, more affordable time to enjoy Nevis before the summer festivals begin. Expect lush landscapes, lower hotel rates, and fewer crowds.
July to August- The island comes alive with the Nevis Mango Festival in early July and the vibrant Culturama celebrations in late July through early August. It’s a fantastic time to immerse yourself in culture, music, and island traditions.
September to November- While it’s the least busy and most budget-friendly time to visit, this is also the wettest season with a higher risk of storms. If you travel during these months, you’ll enjoy peace and solitude, but it’s best to plan flexibly.
How Much Time Should You Spend in Nevis?
While Nevis can be enjoyed on a day trip from St. Kitts, it truly shines when you allow yourself more time. I recommend spending at least five to seven days soaking in the beaches, exploring the historical sites, and hiking Nevis Peak without feeling rushed. If you love a slower pace of travel, a week allows you to enjoy the island fully, with plenty of time to relax between adventures.
