Getting to Montserrat
The adventure begins with your journey to this hidden gem. Getting to Montserrat is a breeze – just a quick 20-minute plane ride from Antigua. If you’re lucky enough to visit during the right season, you might also catch a ferry from nearby Caribbean islands. Be sure to check for availability beforehand, though, as it’s a seasonal service. As you arrive, the island’s relaxed pace of life will already start to sink in, and you’ll feel the stress of everyday life melting away.
Getting Around Montserrat
Once in Montserrat, getting around is part of the fun! Renting a car is the best way to explore, especially since the island is connected by one main road – making navigation simple and stress-free. If driving isn’t your thing, you can hop on a local bus or arrange a taxi to take you around. Just keep in mind that they drive on the left side, a little nod to the island’s British heritage. And don’t forget, unless you’re visiting from an OECS country, you’ll need to grab a temporary driver’s license (it’s super easy and quick to get one online!).
Must-See Places
Montserrat may be small, but it’s packed with must-see spots that will leave you in awe.

Other local treats include bakes, saltfish, cassava bread, and the intriguing mountain chicken – if you're adventurous enough to give it a try!
Cultural Experiences on Montserrat
St. Patrick’s Festival – Montserrat is the only country outside of Ireland that celebrates St. Patrick's Day as a national holiday! This week-long celebration in March blends Irish heritage with Afro-Caribbean culture, featuring parades, music, dancing, and a reenactment of the 1768 slave uprising. It’s a cultural experience unlike any other.
Montserrat Carnival – If you’re visiting in December, prepare to be swept away by the energy of Montserrat Carnival! This exuberant festival is a dazzling display of vibrant costumes, lively music, and street parades that culminate in a grand New Year's Day celebration.
